27 killed in another clash in Plateau

 

About 25 people are believed to have been killed at Zango village in Wase LGA of Plateau State as ethnic militia engaged in fresh hostilities.

The killings which is believed to be a continuation of hostilities between the Tarok and the Fulani left several casualties on both sides.

It was learn that  armed militia invaded  Wase town yesterday afternoon but were repelled by the town's vigilante members who pursued  and killed many of them.

'Shortly after we completed Zuhur prayers we heard gunshots being fired into our community and everybody started running, but we were able to chase the militants away and burnt their camps around the area.

'Five of our youths were killed and we brought back their corpses while I saw over 20 corpses that do not belong to us', Safi Sambo,  a youth leader from Wase was quoted as saying.

A  Tarok traditional ruler,  Jessey Pyenkwam, was also quoted as confirming  that much of Zango, a Tarok settlement, had been razed.

According to him,  'It's sad that this crisis has taken this turn; it is even more sad that it is being seen as a Tarok-Fulani confrontation because both communities need each other.'

Spokesman of the Special Task Force (STF) in the state Captain Salisu Mustapha confirmed  that there had been attacks around Wase but could not give the exact number of those killed.
